Hugh W. Knight, RPLS #4872, age 71, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2021, at his home in Rowlett, TX, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born November 14, 1949, in Lafayette, GA, to Hugh and Katherine (Wilson) Knight. Hugh graduated from H. Grady Spruce High School in Dallas in 1968. He then began his career with the City of Dallas and was recognized for his ability with numbers. He worked diligently to become a Registered Public Land Surveyor and worked for the Texas Department of Transportation and several other land surveying companies throughout his career. He left his footprint over a large majority of Texas and liked to say he helped build Dallas. He loved to mentor aspiring surveyors and many benefited from his passion for land surveying. In his years of retirement, he enjoyed gardening, painting, cooking, listening to music and walking his dog. He was a loving and devoted family man.
Hugh is survived by his loving wife of 43 years: Shay Knight; daughter: Amanda Knight; brother: Danny Knight and wife Pam; nephew: Jason Knight; niece: Jessica Knight; and beloved dog Baby. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 pm Saturday, August 28, 2021, at Rest Haven Funeral Home in Rowlett.
I had the pleasure to know and collaborate with Hugh on a variety of survey projects in the Dallas area. He was a good man and positively influenced many in the survey profession. May he rest in peace.
