Austin J. “Jay” Bedford, 60, went to be with the Lord on October 23, 2019 in Royse City, Texas. He was born on March 14, 1959 in Kerrville, Texas.
He graduated from Cooper High School in Abilene, Texas in 1977 where he was a player on the varsity Tennis team. He became interested in surveying while working for his father, David A. Bedford’s in the Oil Business and continued his pursuit of getting registered over the next several years.
He was a very devoted and supporting father who enjoyed being involved with all his children’s activities throughout their school years.
Jay Bedford had 41 years of surveying experience and at the age of 22 at that time became the youngest Registered Professional Land Surveyor to pass the State Board exam in 1983. He had proven his leadership skills through the years by serving as president of the Texas Society of Professional Surveyors’ local Dallas chapter in 1985. He also served on various committees at the state level with TSPS.
In the public sector, Jay Bedford served on the Planning and Zoning commission for the prominent Town of Sunnyvale from 1996 to 2003. He was chairman of that Commission 4 of the 7 years of his term and Jay Bedford also served as a director with the Rockwall Area Chamber of Commerce from 2014-2015. In the private sector, Jay Bedford has served as President of Lone Star Team Penning Association in 1995, 1996 & 1997. He also served as President of Lone Star Cutting Horse Association in 1999 & 2000, Jay also served as a national director for Area 24 with the renowned National Cutting Horse Association. Jay Bedford was member of Texas Society of Professional Surveyors and a member of the Rockwall Noon Rotary Association.
He is survived by Terri, his bride of 37 years; son, Austin and wife Dani, of Garland, TX; daughter, Stephens of Weatherford, TX, son, Beau and wife Amelie of Fort Worth, TX; one granddaughter Adeline; His mother, Betty Bedford; brother, D. Alivn Bedford and wife Cynthia; sister Stephanie & husband, Doug Stenberg; sister Fredda and husband Kelley Rosenbaum; sister, Laura Caddell and several other family members, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, David A. Bedford and brother in law, John Caddell.
