Focus Area #1: Our Surveyors

Goal: Texas Society of Professional Surveyors (TSPS) cultivates a thriving, respectful, diverse network of industry professionals and local and state officials.

Objective: Facilitate a positive cultural shift within TSPS membership and the industry through consistent professional conduct.  

• Create a fair and balanced procedure for meetings and events that supports a thriving, respectful, diverse network and promotes the TSPS Canon of Ethics.
• Host meetings and events that promote enthusiasm and goodwill.
• Promote diversity by encouraging the next generation of members to become more active and take on leadership roles.
• Create a society tagline/motto/slogan. Hold a Membership contest.

Objective: TSPS members proactively develop and foster relationships with local and state officials.

• Increase membership involvement with local officials/planning commissions/city councils.
• Create “Legislative Week” in non-legislative years to connect and build relationships with local and state officials.
• Present a web-based course to provide surveyors with the skills necessary to communicate with local and state officials.

Focus Area #2: More Surveyors

Goal: Texas Society of Professional Surveyors (TSPS) is a trusted partner in statewide survey industry talent recruitment and development.

Objective: Collaborate with educational institutions to promote surveying as a profession and develop a student pipeline of future surveyors.

• Make the video about the Isidro Garza high schoool CTE mondel available on the for surveyors and schools to access information about the Geospatial Engineering and Land Surveying Program of study.
• Work with TEA (Texas Education Agency) to implement a statewide - instead of regional - CTE (Career & Technical Education) Land Surveying Program of study.
• Make internship opportunities available in the TSPS Career Center.

• Have A TSPS Presence at the Texas School Counselors Annual Convention

Objective: Encourage Paraprofessionals to obtain certification and licensing through Certified Survey Technicians (CST), Surveyors in Training (SIT), and Registered Professional Land Surveyors (RPLS).

• Promote CST as an alternative career path for para-professionals.
  
• Investigate a more para-pro track at the convention/symposium.

Focus Area #3: Better Surveyors

Goal: Texas Society of Professional Surveyors (TSPS) is the leading resource for the development of innovative practices for surveyors in Texas.

Objective: Educate surveyors on emerging technologies and best practices in the industry through expanding and improving the quality of learning tools.

• Include a technology section in the TSPS Surveyor magazine sharing the latest technology in the industry.
• Include a technology section on the TSPS website to house emerging technology information.
• Include technology courses at the TSPS Annual Convention and TSPS Symposium.
• Develop a TSPS Technology Committee to inform members about emerging technology.
