The TSPS Executive Committee met Monday morning to discuss the next steps for HB 3420 by Representative Angie Chen Button. TSPS was recently made aware of direct opposition to the bill by other organizations, primarily the ACEC. The main point of opposition to the bill was directed at the increase in current registration requirements towards the associate degree pathway. The Executive Committee voted to withdraw the bill from this year’s legislative session and will hold it or some version thereof until the 2023 session. TSPS intends to meet with the opposing organizations during the interim and to work with stakeholders to get consensus on this proposed legislation to move forward.
TSPS Governmental Affairs Committee will continue to monitor the numerous bills on our tracking list and report to membership as needed. In addition, HB 3817, and SB 1072, both relating to State Plane Coordinates and important to the land surveying profession, have been filed and read in the respective chambers. TSPS has worked diligently with the various stakeholders for two years toward implementing the 2022 SPCS datum.
