This year’s 2019 SkillsUSA State Conference took place April 5th - 7th at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi. Local TSPS Chapter 12 - Coastal Bend and TAMUCC/GISSO volunteered their time, knowledge, and equipment to organize, layout, judge and facilitate the Land Surveying SkillsUSA Texas state high school competition. Nine high schools consisting of 18 teams from all over Texas competed in land surveying activities such as: resume writing, industry standard uniform requirement, technical written exam, fieldwork (horizontal/vertical angles, taping, level loop), and fieldnote/sketches at the American Bank Center in downtown Corpus Christi.
Along with Awards from the SkillsUSA Competition, TSPS SkillsUSA Chair James Carr, put together additional prizes that included a “Getting Started With GPS Surveying” book, “Study Guide for Texas Surveyors” manual, TSPS logo Polo shirt, Texas Surveyor shirt and Mount Rushmore T-Shirts/bumper stickers all conveniently packed into a cooler. The instructor for each team also received a matching team shirt and a TSPS Tumbler cup.
