Recently, local surveyors from the Houston area were invited to present to a group of over 100 middle school and high school students at "Passport to Your Future" STEM Career Forums. This event will be held on Friday, January 25th from 8:30 a.m. to noon and is designed to provide students from Klein ISD, Aldine ISD, Spring ISD and Harmony schools with an overview of land surveying including: job outlook, different levels of surveying and different types of surveyors. Students are given the opportunity to interact with career professionals, receive relevant career pathway information and engage in hands-on activities. Current presenters include: Derick Vargas, Meredith and Isidro Garza.
"We are very excited that these ISD schools have implemented the new Geospatial Engineering & Land Surveying Pathway. At the "Passport to Your Future" event we hope, as an industry, to build momentum and interest in the Surveying field from these students." Isidro Garza.
The presenters will start with a brief overview about surveying and allow students to learn about a few surveying instruments, ask questions and much more. For more information about this event or to see how you can help, contact communications@tsps.org.
This is great! It would be awesome to see this expand outside of those school districts.

Excellent! Surveying encompasses the full meaning of STEM with Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, ALL a part of what surveyors use on a daily basis!
