In Memoriam - Derwood Cecil "Beau" Brummel

Derwood Cecil “Beau” Brummell of Pittsburg passed away at his home on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016. He was 88 years of age. Beau was born on Nov. 8, 1928 in Morris County Texas to parents Jack and Willie Mae Brummell.  On Jan. 28, 1950, he married Joyce Annie Harrell, where for the next 61-plus years they would raise four children and provide a loving and caring home for their family.

Beau received an Associate’s Degree in Business from Rice College in Houston in 1952. He pursued a variety of careers in his lifetime to include Business Manager at Humble Oil Company, farming in Camp County, Camp County Surveyor, Field Representative for the Agriculture & Soil Conservation Service, Camp County Tax Assessor & Collector, owner of the local recreation center, and local Postal Carrier in Pittsburg.

Beau was actively involved in local youth sports where he coached both Pee Wee and Little League Baseball, umpired all levels of baseball and spent several years refereeing high school basketball.

Beau was also energetically involved in the Camp County community as a member of the Frank Sexton Lodge No. 206 for almost 60 years, and recently celebrated his 60-year membership with the of the Woodmen of the World, a Fraternal Organization.  He was also an active member in the First Baptist Church in Pittsburg where he served as a Deacon.

Beau is survived by his daughter Denise and husband Ray Reynolds of Mt Pleasant; son Geary and wife Marsha Brummell of Philomont, VA; son John and wife Kim Brummell of Pittsburg, son Robert and wife Leslie Brummell of Frisco, TX; 10 grandchildren, Brandi Urban, Casey Watkins, Kerbi Ramirez, Kali Williams, Quinn Brummell, Laine Brummell, Abby Brummell, Marc Brummell, Meghan Brummell, Michelle Brummell as well as 10 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandson; brother GW and wife Ava Brummell of Pittsburg as well as several nieces and nephews and a number of dear friends.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Masonic service at 11:00 a.m. at Erman Smith Funeral Home in Pittsburg, Texas. A short graveside service will follow at Riley Cemetery in Camp County, Texas.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Beau's honor to: Alzheimer's Association National Office, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601 or First Baptist Church, 300 Jefferson St, Pittsburg, TX 75686.
