Presenter: Robby Christopher
Class participants will learn the history of surveying navigable rivers in Texas. Then it’s off to the Canadian River to get hands-on experience at identifying a qualifying bank and taking measurements necessary to establish the boundary between a state-owned riverbed and upland, private lands.
Presenter: Stan Piper & J.D. Davis
Class participants will benefit from Stan's many years of experience as he explains his methods of preparing for a survey, setting up his research and field sketches. Then he has an in-field experience to learn how to recover and identify original monuments.
Presenter: Maxey Sheppard
With a compass and chain, a set of handwritten field notes and antique survey equipment, participants will strike out across the prairie with HPE instructors and their assistants in search of old boundary corners. This exercise will allow young and old surveyors to collaborate on ideas and methods of working without the use of modern technology.
Presenter: Michael Newton
Class participants will be able to listen to Michael's experiences in following pioneer surveyors, including their methodology. During the field portion of the class, participants will be able to use antique surveying equipment.
