“Ethics and the Land Surveyor” will be a close examination of how the professional, specifically pertaining to land surveying, is affected by “ethics” in dealing with clients as well as employees. Standards; ethical principles; integrity; court decisions; and surveyor negligence will be addressed. (4 CEU's, applicable to TBPLS requirements for Ethics)
This course will explore the identification and location of private and public rights resulting from dedication by the owner(s). Including both written and unwritten creation, emphasis will be on recognition and proof of the existence and extent of dedicated rights. Dedication and acceptance of land parcels; historical rights affecting today’s land use; types of dedication; and types of acceptance will specifically be addressed. (4 hours, 4 CEU'S)
Besides making measurements on a parcel of land, the land surveyor is routinely involved in numerous other necessary tasks. This discussion includes land records research, talking with former owners and other knowledgeable persons, reconciling previous and related surveys, resolving conflicts, computations, drafting, report writing, and other responsibilities generally not observed by the client or landowner. The transfer of title; types of survey; notice; negligence; court decisions; evidence will specifically be addressed. (4 CEU’s)
