Dwayne Ray Gresham

May 1, 1945 — December 15, 2024

Dwayne Ray Gresham, 79, of Amarillo, TX passed away December 15, 2024.

Rosary will be said at 6:00 PM, Thursday, December 19, 2024 at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount. Funeral mass will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, December 20, 2024 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 4100 Coulter. Interment will follow in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Dwayne was born May 1, 1945 in Canyon, Texas to William and Stella Gresham. He graduated from Hereford High School, and worked at Santa Fe Railway for ten years in their engineering department reconstructing the Canadian River Bridge among other projects. Dwayne opened and operated Gresham & Associates, INC. for 45 years and was licensed in six states to include Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado, and Kansas. Dwayne was a member of the South Rotary Club and received their “Outstanding Service Award” for 1986-1987 along with the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International “Paul Harris Fellow”. He was President of the Panhandle Chapter 16 Texas Surveyors Association in 1981 and received the “Outstanding Service Donor” award in 2009 from the Amarillo Habitat for Humanity and volunteered with them for many years. Dwayne married Maria “Maggie” Garcia on September 6, 2003 in Santa Fe, N.M.

Dwayne enjoyed traveling with” The Love of his life, Maggie” and spending time with family and friends, playing golf, watching football, and going to Vermejo Park Ranch to do some fly fishing. Dwayne never knew a stranger, loved showering friends and family with his warm hospitality and made a mean margarita which he called “PDMs”……if you know, you know! Dwayne, the life of party, the sweetest friend, the provider and protector, and the best “Pappa Honey” will forever be missed.

He is survived by his wife Maggie Gresham; children Jonathan Gresham and wife Joie of Amarillo, TX, John Mariscal and wife Sonia Mariscal of Hereford, TX, Julie Szilveszter and husband Jeremy of Amarillo, TX, and Stephanie Escamilla and husband Jonathan of Hereford, TX; grandchildren, Micha, Mitchell, Nicholas, Neveah, Jazzlyne, A.J., Emily, and Milo; and great-grandchild, Iris.

The family suggests memorials be made to Habitat for Humanity, 2700 S. Wilson St., Amarillo, TX 79103

Mr. Gresham always returned my call and made time to provide details and explanations regarding why and how something was done. When I was the Chapter 16 lead, TSPS was in the midst of contending with a Tx Leg. sunset review of the TX Board of Professional Surveyors. Following the TSPS sponsored slideshow, Mr. Gresham approached me (knowing I was engineer and recent S.I.T.) and shared that he was a proponent of merging the 2 boards, as his experience in NM and OK had shown him that surveyors had gained respect AND improved professionalism after being licensed by the same board as the engineers in those states. Mr. Gresham also shared that he spent lots of Sunday afternoons working for the Texas Surveyors' Association, and he inspired me to give more time than I thought I should for the profession. Mr. Gresham, the world is a better place, and the future is brighter because you served well !!! May all the souls of the faithfully departed rest in PEACE. S. McDaniel

I had the opportunity to work with Dwayne and his team on a boundary survey project on the Canadian River in 2019. It was a very good experience and I enjoyed getting to know him. Sad to learn of his passing. He was a good man, professional, and loved his family. Bill O'Hara

Sorry to hear of Dwayne's passing. I had the pleasure to meet Dwayne through TSPS events, and worked with him on some Panhandle refinery and wind projects. He obviously had a successful professional career, and more importantly an impactful family and civic history. RIP.
