Boundary Retracement | Locating Original Corners | December Seminar

Heart of Texas Boundary Retracement Seminar

A modern day search for original survey corners.

By utilizing county record information, GLO field notes, working sketches and aerial photos, the original surveys can be positioned within a small search area. Licensed State Land Surveyors will be party chiefs to guide you through the process using information found on the ground.

Topics to be Discussed:

  • Key elements of gradient boundary
  • Survey, grant, and deed retracement
  • Records search
  • Preparation of working sketches
  • Previous surveyors and their methods
  • History of the area at the time of the orginal survey
  • Identify GLO symbols
  • Principle ruling of selected court cases

Plus attendees will:

  • Construct surveys from evidence found
  • Visit the monument that marks the spot
  • Receive handouts which include letters from the original surveyor, original field notes, patent, & corrected field notes


By attending this seminar in its entirety, attendees will earn 16 CEUs, which include 1 hour Ethics & 2 hours Standards as approved by the TBPLS.

Locating Original Corners Seminar
(16 CEUs) 

This 2 1/2 day, hands-on seminar takes place in a beautiful setting on the pristine Frio River near Garner State Park at the 15,000 acre historic Annandale Ranch in the Texas Hill Country.

This unique interactive experience is presented and led by some of the state‚Äôs most highly experienced practicing Licensed State Land Surveyors.

Participants who attend will:

  • Participate in the determination of the gradient boundary of the Frio River.
  • Capitalize on techniques for determining corner search positions learned over years of experience.
  • Appropriately apply the field evidence to final original survey construction to legally establish missing
    or obliterated corners.
  • Review landmark court cases that were the basis for the current dignity of calls in regard to retracing original survey corners.
  • Examine ancient trees in search of survey witness marks called for in the original survey fi eld notes.
  • Seek and find original rock mounds set in the 1800s that remain virtually undisturbed and in their original position.


By attending this seminar in its entirety, attendees will earn 16 CEUs, which includes 3 hours of Ethics/Rules as approved by the TBPLS.
