Richard Craig Alderman, RPLS #5285
(January 20, 1958 – July 3, 2017)

After a little over a year battle with cancer, on July 3, 2017, Craig went to be with His Savior and Lord Jesus Christ. During that time, he fought well maintaining a positive attitude which was founded on his faith in the Sovereignty and Providence of God. With a heart steadied by peace, he was able to live life well and still looked after the interest of others.

He was born January 20, 1958 in Gainesville, Texas to Richard Clay Alderman and Betty Joyce (Gibson) Alderman. Growing up, Craig had many outdoor adventures in the various cities he lived in: Oklahoma City, OK; Liberty, Beaumont, Baytown, TX and Hobbs, NM where he graduated at Hobbs High School. Most activities were self-initiated from wandering the bayous and piney forest of South Texas to hunting and camping in West Texas and New Mexico. In high school, Craig trained hard to ride a bull for 8 long seconds. As a true self-starter and hard worker, Craig was often a first-responder in helping family and friends in need.

After high school, Craig had his time in the oil fields working for Halliburton as a cementer. But he soon began a career in land surveying with John West Engineering in Hobbs, NM. He relocated in 1982 to work in their Midland office. In 1999, Craig became a Texas Registered Land Surveyor. In 2000, he was part of the leadership team as a vice president to form West Company of Midland. He served on the board of Texas Society of Professional Surveyors and helped develop training materials.

On December 29, 1990, Craig married June Ann (Franks) Garcia in Midland, Texas. They were members of Crestview Baptist and Stonegate churches. As chief-laborer to his Master Gardener wife June, they transformed a typical grass yard into a beautiful, multi-species garden. In 2013, their home landscaping was part of the “Trio Of Gardens” tour.

Craig is survived by his wife, June Alderman of Midland; a son, Lance and his wife Erica of Midland; two brothers, Curtis and Clint, both of Midland; two sisters, Carol (Alderman) Zondlo of Oklahoma City and Cristi (Alderman) Blair of Midland; two uncles, Eldon Alderman of Wichita Falls, TX and Ben Keith Gibson of Cuba, MO. He is preceded in death by his father Richard and niece Raylee.

Craig had two grandchildren: Emery Wallender and Ezra Wallender; eight nieces and nephews: Zachary Blair, Heather Alderman, Stephen Alderman, Ashley Alderman, Christy (Zondlo) Warmack, Brittany Blair, Joel Zondlo, and Raylee Blair.

The Memorial Services will be at 2:00 pm, Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel, 3800 N Big Spring Street in Midland with Chaplain Robert Kirk of Hospice of Midland, officiating.
