LaNell Aston has announced her retirement from the Texas General Land Office at the end of February.
LaNell began her career at the GLO during the administration of land commissioner Bob Armstrong and served more than 40 years under five land commissioners. She first worked in the department now known as Archives and Records and later transferred to the Surveying department where she spent many years assisting land surveyors around the state with questions regarding the original surveys in Texas.
She was a long time member of TSPS and presented numerous programs to land surveyors. During the David Dewhurst and Jerry Patterson administrations LaNell worked in the Chief Clerk's Office and was very involved in the daily operations of the GLO. She has continued in that capacity with the George P. Bush administration but decided to retire in order to spend more time with her family.
