SURVEYING
CONTEST
Together with
SkillsUSA, TSPS has developed a Surveying contest basically comprised of: an
orientation to industry standards and the contest rules; a resume and interview;
a written test based on the CST Level 1 exam; and a field exercise covering
basic surveying measurements and calculations. These activities are overseen by
a technical committee comprised of local industry professionals.
District 6 SkillsUSA fielded four teams in a surveying contest in Duncanville on
Feb. 1 and 2, 2008.
Dickinson ISD, near Houston, had several teams competing in their District
contest, hoping to move up to State.
The Texas State SkillsUSA contest will be held in Corpus Christi in
April. The winners from the District contest will be competing to take the
contest to the Nationals competition in Kansas City in June.
Florida is the only other state with a SkillsUSA survey competition. Theirs may
not involve any field measurement but may be based solely on TRIG*STAR
questions.
