Chapter 5 donors included Halff Associates, Precise Land Records, Winkelmann & Associates, Martha Compton, Geomatic Resources, Chris Freeman, Richard Ortiz, Scott Posey, The Wallace Group, Vilbig & Associates, Discuillo & Terry, and Jim Nichols. The Annual Library Survey Display was set up on March 4th at the South Garland Branch Library by Robert Schneeberg, John Pierce, and Chris Freeman, with additional items provided by Martha Compton and MIDWEST A&E. The Display, in conjunction with National Surveyors Week March 16-22, was up for the entire month of March, and the Library Director then asked to extend the Display 2 additional weeks due to the very positive response by library patrons, and said that the Display was one of the best ever. The Library Director invited the Chapter to return in the summer to provide a Survey Program as part of their educational Creative Kids program for elementary age students. John Pierce and Chris Freeman will conduct a 1 hour survey program for approximately 20 students. This Display activity is one that all TSPS Chapters should undertake, as it is very well received by both Library staff and the general public, and often leads to further opportunities to educate others about the survey profession. Chapter 5 has also been invited to provide a month long Display at the Garland Main Library in October, and the Chapter is actively seeking other area libraries for display opportunities. Chapter 5 donated $1000.00 to the TSPS Educators Retreat in Tyler. Chapter 5 sponsor MIDWEST A&E donated 5 hand held GPS receivers for the TSPS Educators Retreat in Tyler. Chapter 5 sponsor Lone Star Record & Abstract, Inc. has arranged to provide several summer internships to qualified students in the Duncanville High School SKILLS USA Survey Program, learning record research in the support of the surveying profession. Owner Richard Ortiz has also developed a hiring and interview process model, approved by the high school program Faculty Advisor, by which other firms can do the same. EDUCATION Chapters 5 and 2 co-hosted a seminar by Garey Gilley during the afternoon of April 2nd. Approximately 75 attendees heard Gareys presentation on the Denton/Tarrant County Line court case. Originally organized as a fund raiser for both Chapters, it later was explained that proceeds collected will be made available for surveying scholarships. For details on where the $$$ ended up, contact Davey Edwards of Chapter 2. Chapter 5 continues its support and promotion of the local RPLS and SIT study groups led by Jason Jernigan. The most recent round met on numerous Saturday mornings from February-March to prepare RPLS and SIT candidates for the April exams with an average attendance of 8-12 students. The groups will start up again in early August in preparation for the October exams. As always, information about the groups can be found on the following two Yahoo groups: SIT Study Group: HYPERLINK "http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/land_surv/" \o "http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/land_surv/" http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/land_surv/ RPLS Study Group: HYPERLINK "http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rpls_study_group/" \o "http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rpls_study_group/" http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rpls_study_group/. Certified Survey Technician testing was held on April 5th, with 4 of the 9 examinees passing their respective Level exam. The exams were proctored by John Pierce. Trig*Star packets have been distributed to area high schools who responded, but results had not been received at the time this Report was submitted to the TSPS Executive Director. 4 college credit survey courses are being offered for the Spring semester at North Lake College of the Dallas County Community College District. Instructors for the courses include Chapter 5 members Colin Henry, John Pierce, and Chris Freeman. Chapter 2 member Bill Coleman is also an instructor. No courses are scheduled for the summer session, but a full slate will be available for the fall semester. Chapter 5 sponsor Geomatic Resources hosted students from the North Lake College (DCCCCD) Introduction to Surveying course on April 19 at their Grapevine office. Students heard a presentation on GPS theory, VRS Networks, and had the opportunity for hands on GPS data acquisition. OTHER The Annual Chapter 5 TSPS Day at the Races was held on Saturday April 26th at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie. Nearly 100 participated in this popular event, which includes admission to a private pavilion area and access to a buffet lunch. Fortunes were made and lost, and lots of fun and comraderie were had by young and old. The 9th Annual Tim Mireur Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday May 17th at The Old Brickyard Golf Course in Ferris. 100+ golfers(???) are expected to gather for this great event, which helps raise scholarship funds for Chapter 5 paraprofessionals. The tournament is organized by Sean Flaherty, with breakfast provided by Linda Hernandez and Precise Land Records, and a fantastic catered lunch by Texas de Brasil following all the cheatin, lyin, and cryin. AWARDS Chapter 5 nominated a member for the Young Surveyor Award and forwarded the nomination on to the TSPS Awards Committee for consideration. 9<=wx ޽{{iZL;L;L h3h3CJOJQJ^JaJh3CJOJQJ^JaJh&5CJOJQJ^JaJ#h3hc55CJOJQJ^JaJ#h3h2^ 5CJOJQJ^JaJ#h3hG"5CJOJQJ^JaJh35CJOJQJ^JaJh 5CJOJQJ^JaJ#h3hM45CJOJQJ^JaJhq5CJOJQJ^JaJhM45CJOJQJ^JaJ#h3h&5CJOJQJ^JaJ(=xy ^gd|f^gd3gd9* !
