Our chapter is planning
a meeting in late May or early June, depending on our speaker. We worked on
Trig-Star this year by sending out letters and visiting with teachers but
had no luck with anyone working us into their busy schedule. We are going
to try and get into the schools next year and see if the students want to
participate. If so, we may try a test taking day somewhere in our community.
We are working with members on items to be included in the Auction.
Sincerely,
Curtis Strong

REPORT TO THE TSPS BOARD OF
DIRECTORS
FROM CHAPTER 23 – NORTH EAST TEXAS
BOD quarterly meeting 10 June 06
Report submitted 21 May 06
Chapter 23 bi-monthly membership
meetings were held in March and May. RPLS attendance at the two meetings was
13 and 9, respectively. In addition, a Board of Directors meeting was held
in March with the full board in attendance.
Chapter meeting in March was an
afternoon get-to-gather at a city park in Mt. Pleasant. Instrument supplier
Topcon brought a number of instruments from their line and set them up in
the park for hands-on demonstration. Then Topcon personnel gave a one hour
presentation to the membership about the current technology represented by
their instruments and some information about the future of the technology.
The program was presented in conformance with new rules suggested by TBPLS
which might result in CEU’s being granted for significant chapter programs.
Chapter members fried and devoured catfish and all the trimmins. A business
meeting then was held and the following topics were discussed:
1) Chapter
should strive to increase it’s membership and participation by better
meeting the needs of the Chapter and presenting programs of significance
which might be worthy of approval by TBPLS for CEU’s.
2) The
primary purpose of Chapter 23 in presenting seminars is to provide Education
for Surveyors.
3) Progress
was noted in preparing the Chapter’s seminar in Paris, September 9 and 10.
The date, site and presenter are firmly in place. Brochure and other
promotional items are underway.
4) A
worksheet showing the Chapter’s donations over the last ten years was
presented to the membership. Donations totaling $67,625 have been made to
TSFI, SEFT, Tyler Junior College, TSPS historical display cabinets and Texas
Heritage Museum in Jefferson.
5) It
was noted that a number of members (some present) had not yet renewed their
membership by paying their dues.
Chapter 23 next met in May at
Luigi’s Italian Restaurant in Mt. Pleasant. The program was brought by
Surveyor Robert Young and was derived from his CEU approved program entitled
“Ethics and Professionalism”. Robert included PowerPoint with his talk and
the presentation was well received by the membership. A Chapter business
meeting followed with the following subjects being addressed:
1)
A nomination committee
chair was appointed.
2)
It was noted that Chapter
Board was still short one member.
3)
Chapter voted to spend $500
for items to donate to the auction at June meeting in Austin.
4)
Progress report of the
Paris seminar indicates that everything is OK and the promotional brochure
is prepared and in Austin to be included in the next Texas Surveyor.
Invitations for complimentary participation have been sent to eleven
individuals or organizations. Four adjoining states have been notified of
the seminar with requests to include the seminar on their state calendars.
