EAST TEXAS CHAPTER 4 Chapter 4 hasn’t held any meetings since our September meeting.
In December, Chapter officers nominated and selected Shane Neally to serve as Chapter rep at the Board meetings.
The Chapter has a meeting scheduled for Thursday January 17th 2008 at Tyler Junior College. Our speaker will be Coleen Johnson.
We look forward to a great 2008.

CHAPTER 6 A Chapter Board Meeting was held November 8, 2007 at the Cattle Company Restaurant, in Beaumont. Newly installed officers reviewed and discussed activities of last year and ways to improve proposed activities and how to increase membership in the coming year. A Chapter Activities calendar will be developed and posted on the web page.
On November 29, 2007, a Chapter Christmas party was held at the Cattle Company Restaurant in Beaumont. Approximately 20 members and guests attended. Christmas decorations, Christmas poinsettias and Christmas gifts were provided. Fun and fellowship was had by all. A drawing for the poinsettias and gifts was held and everyone departed with at least one gift or flower and the Christmas Spirit. The event was a social event, and was quite successful.

GULF
COAST CHAPTER 9 Activities for the Gulf Coast Chapter:
September 11, 2007
– The dinner meeting was held at the Houston City Club with approximately 45 in
attendance. The newly elected officers were introduced and offered the oath of
commitment by Bud Thompson. Bob Lupher presided at the dinner meeting as one of
his last duties as President. The dinner meeting also included the annual RL
Sargeant Auction. Several delectable delights were offered for an open auction
to raise money for SURPAC and PSEFI (Professional Surveyors Educational
Foundation, Inc.). Thanks to the generosity of several local firms and
individuals the auction raised approximately $15,500.00 of which $2,375.00 was
presented to SURPAC from the Gulf Coast Chapter.
October 9, 2007
– The Chapter Board meeting was held at the offices of Benchmark Engineering.
The newly elected board had several items on the agenda to discuss for the
upcoming term. Most noteworthy items included the naming of the committee
chairs, establishing a budget, coordinating the transfer of data between the
outgoing secretary/treasurer and the incoming secretary/treasurer and
resurrecting the newsletter and chapter website.
November 13, 2007
– The dinner meeting was held at the Houston City
Club with approximately 35 in attendance and our guest speaker was Stan Baugh
with Stewart Title in Houston discussing the resources available from the title
company and various other title matters and their impact with respect to the
surveys issued. Certificates of appreciation were presented to past officers
for their commitment to TSPS. New members of TSPS were recognized and each of
the local colleges presented a brief overview of their respective programs and
upcoming class schedules.
December 11, 2007
– The Chapter Board meeting was held at the offices
of Benchmark Engineering. The most noteworthy items discussed at the board
meeting included: schedule for upcoming events (softball, golf, fishing
tournaments and picnic), budget items and newsletter and website issues. Terry
Rowe, Chapter Education/Public Relations Committee Chair, has been trying to get
the information for TrigStar to get it started in the Houston area and getting
together a contingent of surveyors and equipment to assist with the Survey Merit
Badge for the boy scouts at the winter camp over the Christmas holidays. The
Board is also trying to determine the best way to advertise the surveying
profession during Surveyor’s Week in March. We will enlist the membership to
offer ideas in the coming months for this event. The Chapter newsletter is
finally coming to fruition and should be issued in January. The Chapter website
is slowly being retooled for release. Bud Thompson has been instrumental in
sorting out the details and prodding folks to assist with the technical aspects
of the website. December 27-30, 2007 – Terry Rowe and other volunteers from the Chapter participated in the Survey Merit Badge for the Boy Scouts during their winter camp in Montgomery County. Students and teachers from Montgomery College also assisted with the effort.
PERMIAN BASIN CHAPTER 10 November On November 17th Chapter 10 hosted the Beta class for the "Survey Instrumentation' class being developed for Symposium 2008. Marcus Hostas and I were able to test the new course on around 30 folks from around our area. We were pleased to have Shannan as our guest for support and her always-valuable feedback. I feel like overall the Beta class was very successful and helped Marcus and I to make some changes to the course that we hope will make it better. Michel Newton is putting his final
touches on his new course "Land Descriptions" which he will present at Symposium
2008 and we are all looking forward to seeing what Michel has prepared. Michel
is an LSLS from Andrews and comes from a prominent surveying family in our area
and is one of the most respected surveyors in West Texas. I have made some changes to the "Lost
Art of Notekeeping" and I will be presenting the updated course at Symposium
2008. We had a meeting late in November, but it was a "Cowboy's" game night and we had a small turn out.
December On December 4th Chapter 10
participated in the Midland Christmas Parade. We had four ATVs decorated for
Christmas and loaded with people and lots of candy for the crowd. We had a lot
of fun and plan on a repeat next year. We did not have a meeting in December. January We plan to have our annual meeting
with the local Engineer's group but I do not have a time or date yet. I am very proud for the hard work and participation of Chapter 10 in 2007 and we are looking forward to 2008.
Respectfully submitted Craig Alderman
ALAMO CHAPTER 11
Chapter 11 is on tract for a
successful year. December 13th we had a very successful Christmas
Party that donated $225.00 in cash and additional toys to the “Construct a Kid’s
Christmas”, sponsored by Construction News, a newsletter published in San
Antonio.
We are scheduled to have our
first General Meeting of 2008 on Thursday, January 17th at the Hungry
Horse Restaurant during the lunch hour. Mr Ron Martin will be presenting the
topic of GIS and its applications. Mr. Martin is well traveled and well spoken,
so this should be a long lunch hour, but very interesting.
Chapter 11 is assisting two
students, again this semester, with their pursuit of a degree. We are very proud
of their effort and with the completion of this semester will be graduating,
thereby enabling two more students to take advantage of the assistance that our
Chapter offers. February finds us busy again with the Golf Tournament, Thursday February 21, 2008 followed by the hosting of the Symposium on Friday, February 22 through Saturday February 23, 2008.
The Chapter is in the process
of getting ready for Trig-Star by recruiting some help for the testing
procedures and anticipates a large turn out from the various schools in San
Antonio. This year looks to be a busy one for our Chapter with, in addition to what I have mentioned above, we will be having our 4th Annual Hook Line and Surveyor fishing tournament and hosting the State Convention (cruise).
Sincerely, Budd Buchanan, R.P.L.S.
COASTAL BEND CHAPTER
12 Things
are going well for the chapter. To break up the normal routine of our monthly
meetings, on August 25 we held a BarBQ at the Chapter President’s house that was
well attended and a good time was had by all. The
Chapter sponsored Don Mulcare’s expenses for his seminar at the annual
convention. Two of our annual award nominations were successful, Dale Moore for
the Hugh L. George Award and Miguel Escobar for the Young Surveyor of the Year
Award. Of course, neither is active in the Chapter any more, but we don’t
quibble about such things. With all
the sponsoring of teachers and speakers, our funds had become depleted, so on
November 17 we held a seminar for CEUs on the Blucher records and similar
archives at the Bell Library at TAMUCC. All of our speakers donated their time,
so our expenses were quite low, enabling us to clear just under $3000 for the
Chapter. It was well attended and everyone gave us good reviews. In
January we will be gearing up for Trig-Star, hopefully we can do better than
last year and get more schools involved.
Sincerely, Michael J. MacInnis

BRAZOS
VALLEY CHAPTER 20 We have a meeting planned for the end of January. We are working on a place and will try to get Jon Hodde to speak as he was recently selected to the TBPLS. We hope to get our chapter more active this year and hopefully we will participate in Trig-Star.

HEART OF TEXAS
CHAPTER 21 On December 8, 2007 our chapter held the annual Christmas Party in Brownwood. Don King set the meeting place, and did a great job, it fit the need perfectly. We had an excellent time and had excellent attendance (approximately 32 including significant others). Not much business was conducted in the meeting. I did inform the chapter that I had big plans for us in 2008, and told them that I wanted to set up some committees on education and ethics. We even had some volunteers step up to the plate which is great. Some discussion was had regarding the possibility of putting on a seminar to raise funds and to promote education, but no action was officially taken.
Our next
meeting is planned for Saturday, February 16, 2008 in Cleburne. This meeting
will be a business meeting and we will decide which committees we want to put
together and who will actively serve on those committees. It is our goal to
promote the profession, and to promote professional practices within the
profession.
Sincerely, S. Erik Dumas
CHAPARRAL CHAPTER 22 The
Chaparral Chapter held our Quarterly/Christmas Meeting at the Seco Secret Dining
Hall and Bed and Breakfast in D’Hanis,
Texas on
December 17, 2007.
Our
Guests of Honor where TSPS President Colleen Johnson and her spouse, Mike from
Austin. Other Guests included Alamo Chapter President Bud Buchanan from San
Antonio, new Chapter 22 member Ken Dirksen, PE from Uvalde and Clay Ward and
his wife of Tarpley, from our neighbor Chapter 15 along with five other Chapter
22 member and some of their spouses. There were fifteen in attendance. Our
previous meeting was September 17, 2007 and our next quarterly meeting will be
March 10, 2008. The remaining meetings are scheduled for June 9 and September 8
of 2008. To date, Chapter 22 has twenty members, sixteen Registered and twelve to fifteen (including spouses) who attend meetings on a regular basis. Growth opportunities in chapter 22 are limited. We have had two new Surveyors come into this Chapter in the last year or two, both as new registrants from existing members families. Ken Dirksen is a new SIT and is pursuing his RPLS. We will be continuing our outreach to our less active neighbor Chapters…

NORTH EAST TEXAS CHAPTER 23
In
September, Chapter held its annual Fish Fry for the membership and friends in
Mt. Pleasant. Surveyor Bill Wright was Chief Chef and approximately 30 folks
enjoyed the fish and trimmin’s. The Chapter’s Surveying with Solar Instruments
seminar was presented that same weekend with 40 surveyors in attendance.
Surveyor Tim Kent of Oregon brought the solar instruments and conducted the
seminar---much to the enjoyment and enlightenment of all in attendance. In
November, Chapter met at Catfish Village in Ore City with 12 folks in
attendance. After a fine meal, the business meeting was led by President Josef
Hausler. It was noted that the Chapter’s seminar netted about $3000 after
expenses. The death of Surveyor Royce Hammett of Clarksville was reported.
Discussion was held about future Chapter seminars and a committee was appointed
(Mark Caldwell, Mike Gardner, Dan Hampton). In
January, Chapter met at Luigi’s Restaurant in Mt. Pleasant with 16 folks in
attendance. One new SIT employed by Mike Gardner’s firm was introduced.
President Josef Hausler conducted the business meeting and opened with remarks
about his goal to improve meeting programs and increase attendance.
Treasurer/Secretary reported that 16 Surveyors comprise the official membership
of Chapter 23 and it was noted that the list of 16 did NOT include several of
those surveyors in attendance. Some heads were hung and eyes averted. Chapter
reaffirmed its intention to hold future seminars and confirmed that “History”
would remain the theme of Chapter seminars. Seminar Committee was challenged to
move quickly to get the 2008 seminar rolling. Committee meeting was set for
January 15 in Texarkana. A special, called meeting of the membership was set for
February 12 to consider and act upon the Committee’s proposal. Chapter
23 members report a continuing good economy and everyone who wants to be busy is
busy. End of Report, submitted 14Jan08
