NOMINATING
The committee met at the
annual meeting in October and elected Mickey Nowell as chair. No meeting
has taken place since.
The committee will meet
on February 10, 2007 to begin formulating a preliminary list of nominees.
PRESIDENT'S REPORT
There has been
significant activity in the recent quarter.
In
November I attended the Gulf Coast Chapter 9 Dinner Meeting in Houston,
along with Second Vice-President Alan McLain.
On
December 7, 2006, my wife and were the guests of Chapter 8 for their
annual Christmas Dinner Meeting. After a short business meeting and
announcements I asked the attendees, “what is you greatest concern for the
profession today?” The resounding answer was the need for sufficient
qualified survey personnel and people to follow us into roles as business
owner and managers.
On
January 9, 2007 my wife and I attended the Dallas Chapter Meeting as their
guests. The Dallas Chapter also invited new S.I.T.s and R.P.L.S.’s to the
dinner meeting and recognized them for their individual accomplishments.
As the featured speaker I added my congratulations for achieving
professional status in surveying in Texas and reminded them of the
continuing need for their talents. I asked the attendees, “what is you
greatest concern for the profession today?” The majority answer was the
need for sufficient qualified survey personnel. My message and points of
focus for the evening were to address the one overwhelming need in our
profession for qualified survey personnel. I also talked about our
legislative agenda and the drive to make the S.I.T. a renewable
certificate. I asked each member for their assistance, either through a
SURPAC donation or by taking a few minutes when the legislative alert goes
out to contact their local congressman and let them know what this
legislation means, not only to the surveying profession in Texas, but to
the people of Texas.
On
Saturday, January 13, 2007, I attended the 2007 Leadership Orientation
which was well attended and help refocus on the coming year. All committee
members in attendance got a chance to learn some new leadership skills
from Fred Crawford and all Division Chairs and Committees had a chance to
get acquainted and accomplish some plans and budget discussion. In spite
of the inclement weather a great deal was accomplished.
I
want to personally thank the Chapters I attended as a guest for their
hospitality and respect shown for the office of President. All were very
gracious and appreciative of our attendance. I would also like to take
this opportunity to thank those in attendance at this year’s leadership
orientation for their participation on a day when we would all have rather
been inside in front of a warm fireplace taking it easy. Thank you for
your sacrifice of time for the betterment of the membership, not
unappreciated by this officer and member of TSPS.
