TBPLS Committee Report
Texas Society of Professional Surveyors
COMMITTEE ACTIVITY REPORT
The
Texas Board of Professional Land Surveying (TBPLS) held quarterly meetings on
Oct. 8, 2004, in San Antonio in conjunction with the annual TSPS meeting, and on
Dec. 3, 2004, at its boardroom in Austin. I attended the meeting in San Antonio
but missed the December meeting in Austin.
Recent Board activities include:
The Board adopted amendments to Rul 661.62 concerning the complaints
process.
The Board is considering New Rule 661.99 which would establish a Sanction and
Penalty Matrix.
The Board finalized a statement regarding Survey and GIS Products. The statement
was prepared and submitted by Maxey Sheppard and Coleen Johnson, Edited by Board
member Wm. C. Wilson, Jr. and approved for publishing by the Texas Board of
Professional Land Surveying on 12-8-04.
The Board received an opinion from the Attorney General's office regarding
retired status. The Summary states, "The Board of Professional Land
Surveying may not establish a "retired status" for its registrants,
set a reduced renewal fee, and waive continuing education requirements for those
individuals."
A bill was filed recently in the legislature to amend Section 1071.1527 of the
Act to allow the Board to adopt reduced certificate of registration and license
fees and annual renewal fees for land surveyors who are at least 65 years of
age.
This concludes my report.
Respectfully yours in professional land surveying,
Bill O'Hara
