COMMITTEE ACTIVITY REPORT

Michael Evans, and myself have meet two times within the last two months with Christina Stopka ( Assistant Director)   Judy Shofner (Librarian), Tracie Evans ( Collections Manager ), and Bryon A. Johnson (Director)  of the Texas Ranger Museum in Waco Texas.

The topic of course has been the TSPS Exhibit in the Museum.  The original topic was going to be Jack Hays, Ranger/Surveyor.  As time has past and research has been done, Discovery that their were a lot of Rangers in early years  that were also Land Surveyors.  So the topic has changed to:

RANGERS AND SURVEYING

The Garrison Gallery Renovation will be the location of the TSPS Exhibit.  Which for you that haven’t been to the Museum, as you walk into the Museum, the cashier if the first thing you see when you enter.  After getting instructions and paying your visitation fee to your left is the Garrison Hall.  As you walk into the Garrison Hall, just to your right will be the Start of the Exhibit.

The exhibit will start with Jack Hays, and George Erath.  Then continue to show artifacts and stories about other surveyors and the part they took in Texas History.

As you know this is a major task locating  artifacts.  And I am calling out to our Members for assistance. We Need any and all artifacts, equipment, maps, drawing instruments, any thing that might fit in the scope of Land Surveying from the early 1800's to present.  For example: They have had donations of old compass’s etc.  which would represent the early 1800's and  WDS will be furnishing a GPS unit to end the display.   Now all we got to do is fill in the gaps between.

The members et.al., can either make a permanent donation of the equipment and other artifacts to the Ranger Museum, or the Equipment can be on Loan for the Exhibit.  I will have forms from the Ranger Museum for such donations.  Or they can be taken directly to The Texas Ranger Museum in Waco.  Tracie Evans, the Collection Manager will be available  for such donations.  Her phone number is 254/750/8631 Fax 254/750/8629, and her email is traciee@ci.waco.tx.us

The donations or loan equipment et.al.  will bear the donor’s name in the Exhibit

This is a good opportunity for TSPS and its members to get their names out in this exhibit.

If any questions arrive don’t hesitate in Calling
