DIVISION: Liaison     DIV #: 3     DIVISION OFFICER: Bud Thompson

COMMITTEE: ACSM/NSPS       CHAIRMAN REPORTING: Patrick Smith

BOARD MEETING DATE: October 7, 2004

COMMITTEE ACTIVITY REPORT

My report remains the same as given at the June TSPS Board meeting.

Attended the ACSM/NSPS meeting in Nashville, TN April 14-18, 2004.

The change in structure for ACSM is now complete and all of the Member Organizations (MO’s) are operating as autonomous organizations with representation on the new ACSM Congress.  You can see all of the details on this transformation at the ACSM website.

The main impact for TSPS members is that now you will join NSPS directly, or any of the other MO’s.  NSPS annual dues commencing in January 2005 will be $180.

NSPS also passed a motion to have automatic dues escalation tied to the CPI (rounded to the nearest dollar) commencing in 2006.  This is something that TSPS has considered.

Thanks to the support of Leica, Texas A&M Corpus Christi was able to send a team to compete in the Student Competition.  While not placing in the top three, these students did an outstanding job of representing the university and the State of Texas.

Mike Haberer was in attendance as TSPS President and recognized at the various meetings.

Anne Glasgow was in attendance at various meetings and representing TSPS at the State Executives Forum.

Jerry Goodson was installed as President –Elect of NSPS.

Lynn Savory was in attendance as NSPS Area 8 Director.

Gary Jeffress was also installed in an officer position for GLIS.

Gerry Curtis stepped off of the NSPS Executive Committee, having fulfilled his term as Past President.  I think we owe him a great show of appreciation for the significant number of years of service.

Coleen Johnson was in attendance representing Texas at the first GIS panel discussion on the state of GIS in the individual states.  I was unable to remain in Nashville long enough to attend this, so I would look to her for a report, which I am sure is part of her GIS committee report.

I will be attending the NSPS meeting on October 1-3, 2004 in Gaithersburg, MD and will provide a verbal summary of new items at our Annual Meeting on October 7 in San Antonio.

Respectfully Submitted

Patrick A. Smith, RPLS
