OCTOBER 2004

No Chapter meeting was held in the month of October, due to the State Convention.

However, the Dallas Chapters executive board had a meeting during the fist week of the month.

We discussed the upcoming TSPS State Convention, various reports of the committees were heard and we discussed the finances of the chapter for the previous year, noting a surplus of funds over the expected amount at the end of the past years officers expectations. It was decided by the Executive Board that most of those extra funds should go to the States Trig-Star 2005 licensure fees.

The new web site was discussed and ideas for upgrading the web site were considered and voted on. Mark Williams continues to be the Chapters Web Site manager and administrator and he is doing a most excellent job.

Miscellaneous Chapter Activities

Some of the actions that the Dallas Chapter has taken in the past few months are as follows:

We obtained a new Post Office mail Box at the Downtown Dallas Post Office.

In December, the Dallas Chapter sent the State Offices a check for $500 that was then assigned by Anne Glasgow to pay the Texas State Licensure fees to the NSPS for the 2005 Trig-Star program. Once we have obtained NSPS 2005 Trig-Star packets, the chapters education committee will immediately mail the packets out to over 115 local area schools. The Envelopes are already labeled and ready to mail and all of the schools have been contacted by phone to confirm the contact and address information.

In January Northlake College began another semester of surveying mathematics, once again this was almost completely due to the ongoing efforts of John Pierce, ever the skillful educator of young people in the field of land surveying.

During the past year, the Dallas Chapter has been working on our new Chapter 5 web site, which is near to being complete, with a few problems most of those being quite natural in newly created web sites. The sites home page web address is:   http://www.tsps-5.org/

We are still working on some of the various links and other pages on the site, but the main page is complete and up and running.

On the main page of the web site, you can link to each of the Chapters member counties by clicking on each portion of the map of the eight counties we serve as shown on that main web site home page. There is also a Links page that lists many various city, county, state, and federal government sites and many surveying related web sites and web pages.
