TxDOT Since our last report the Standing Committee on Surveying (SCOS) has held meetings on May 31, 2007 at the Camp Hubbard campus. The following TxDOT representatives were present: John Wallis, Odessa District; Ivor Walker, Houston District; Jon Cox, Dallas District; Mark Caldwell, Atlanta District; Randall Kercher, Corpus Christi District; Steve Schmidt, ISD Division; Marcy Saenz, Design Division; Dean Wilkerson, ISD Division, Jesse Cooper, Right-of-Way Division; Dan Erwin, Right of Way Division; Darryl Zercher, ISD Division; Judy Skeen (Sponsor) ISD Division and myself.
Committee reports: Pre-Certification- Jon Cox reported 35 RPLS’s have been certified. Survey Manual – John Wallis reported that work is progressing on the revision to Section 7 “ROW Mapping Graphic Standards” and talked about a new chapter dealing with construction surveying. Survey Contract Templates - Ivor Walker reported progress is being made, but contract must be specific as to work effort to be required. Survey Software Solutions: - Darryl Zercher reported that several different software’s are being evaluated.
Old Business: The evaluation sheets from the 2007 TxDOT Survey Conference were reviewed and discussed as to ways the 2008 Conference could be improved. Overall the evaluations were very favorable. Steve Schmidt reported that he is preparing an appendix “C” for the Survey Manual that will show all of the monuments available to be used by TxDOT survey contractors.
New Business: Dan Erwin gave a report of the new Section 7, with a proposed example to be reviewed by SCOS, that included Level names, the old level number, Descriptions, element weight, line style, element color, text style and text size. Dan also discussed a list of Recommend Electronic Deliverables. Changes in the Survey Contract NOI by the Consultant Contract Office were discussed.
